Peter, but Peter knew better. Peter was the most important pinecone in the forest, and he knew it because while the other pinecones toiled away, he hung up high on the tree and watched them work. One day, Peter climbed down the tree and asked one of the

pinecones that was working at the bottom of the tree who the most important pinecone was. "Peter, of course it is me!" said the outcast pinecone. Peter did not like this answer, and he stamped the outcast pinecone into the ground to become an Evergreen.

The other pinecones saw this, and they did not like seeing Peter do such a thing. So Peter was told that he had to leave. And so Peter went, knowing he should prove the other pinecones wrong and let them know that without him, the forest would be sad.

Peter travelled day and night, day and night, day and night, until he was tired and far away from the forest. He found a bush in a field to rest beside and sleep for the night. But before Peter's eyes closed, he heard sounds that came from hungry

squirrels on the other side of the bush. The squirrels had found Peter, and they were hungry! "This pinecone looks delicious!" said the squirrel that turned from the south side of the bush. "It's no Fig berry but I am too hungry to complain!" said the

squirrel that turned from the other side of the bush.
